Well, no matter how you say it . . .there's a tail on the way. I thought I should get this underway just in case the people who hate bases on models were about to stage some sort of riot. Haha!
Indeed, he will be balanced by this looong tail. Saddlebreds are one of the few breeds where an artist can get away with this realistically. The challenge is trying to sculpt it in a way that it doesn't end up looking like a malformed fifth leg.
It's definitely well underway, but I won't know how effective it is as a steady third point until I have a resin prototype in my hands. Then I will be able to play with the angles and tweak it so it isn't "tippy."

Kathi! He looks awesome!! I was just scrolling down your blog really fast, and it is incredible to see the slow yet steady transformation from a metal frame and clay "thing"--into a beautiful horse that looks very much alive!
An idea--kind of like stop-motion clay animation, maybe put these photos into a film program and actually have it be animated?! I'm sure you have so much time to do it...you're not busy at all, right? Hah! Keep up the good work, Kacky!

Katie, believe it or not, I had actually planned on doing just that sort of thing. I did a wee little one of my draft horse's head and it turned out pretty cool. I'll have to just get down to brass tacks and actually do it now that all the photos are done. :^D
